Band Score Checker is a small independent tool for people preparing for IELTS-style writing. Write a Task 2 essay, get an estimated band for each marking criterion straight away, see what's costing you marks, and try again.

How it works

Your essay is sent to a large language model (DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com), OpenRouter (openrouter.ai, which routes to OpenAI models) and apimodels.app) with instructions to assess it the way a trained examiner would, using our own summary of the public marking criteria. Before switching models, we compare them on essays with published examiner scores and keep the closest.

What it isn't

Independent practice tool. Not affiliated with, approved or endorsed by IELTS, the British Council, IDP or Cambridge University Press & Assessment. IELTS is a registered trademark of its owners. Scores are AI estimates, not official results.
